Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq will be performing at the Broad for a feminist performance this Saturday. The performance is said to feel like an out of body experience for the singer and audience. For those of you who have not heard of it before, Inuit throat singing is a distinctive form of singing/chanting unique to the Inuit people. Tanya is a well-respected singer who has spread the art around the world and collaborated with Bjork. This seems like a really cool experience, and the fact that it is so local makes it more exciting. What do you guys think? Have you heard of Inuit throat singing before?

Thank you for your sharing and this is the first time that I have ever watched a inuit singing performance. This seems to me a very alternative and avant-garde music. The more important thing is that it can raise people's awareness regarding the indigenous culture, which people may consider obsolete and irrelevant to our life. Sometimes we have cultural hegemony that may impede the cultural diversity and actually it is really dangerous for the society. We have to learn to preserve different cultures especially those at risk of extinction and obsolecence
