When I was younger I remember the first video of Badu I watched was On&On on VH1. I remember listening to her, but not as well as I listen to her now. Her lyrics are very empowering, and her vibe as a whole is just amazing. What amazes me even more is that she still got it! Her new music is good, and I really love how she incorporates previous lyrics into new songs. I find that to be very genius because if you forgot about an old song by her; she throws in a little verse in her new song, and it will remind you about it. Each track of hers is connected to the other. I also find that the older I get the more I understand what she means by certain lyrics. I really love music that educates.
Sure everyone likes stupid music to party to every now and then, but that will be forgotten in a second. With Music like Erykah's...I feel that I learned something, applied it to my life, or I could relate to in life.
One of my favorite lines that she says about knowledge is.
"I have some food in my bag for you
Not that edible food the food you eat?
No I have some food for thought
Since knowledge is infinite it has infinitely fell on me"
