Hi guys!

I was just wondering if any of you watch television anymore? And by that I don't mean TV shows, but actually spend time watching television like people used to before computers, downloading, streaming etc. And if so, how much do you watch and what?

I think it's really interring how we as media consumers have evolved together with technology. The instant access we have to any media of our choice, has changed the TV game and most people I know don't spend that much time in front of the TV. The ones out of my friends that watch TV shows seem to find the content elsewhere, and many don't even own a TV so I thought it'd be interesting to about you guys's television watching.

I actually can't even remember the last time I watched television. Between scheduling conflicts with show times, commercials, cable bills, and the price of a TV, I have found my entertainment, as you said, elsewhere. Having the ability to watch whatever I want (through on-demand streaming), whenever I want (accessible anywhere on smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) through sites such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, iTunes, etc., saves me the time and money that drove me away from television in the first place.

I have noticed nowadays most young people don't watch TV. Even young young kids don't watch TV. They watch Netflix or movies their parents bought on their Apple TV or any other streaming service. Its a lot cheaper than cable and all the sports packages you have to buy now. Besides, everyone is just streaming things live from their laptop and air-playing it to their TV screen. I personally don't have cable except basic cable that came with my Xfinity Wi-Fi. I am an active Netlfix user and I love it. I got my mom and grandparents both hooked on it, except they still religiously watch Jeopardy, soap operas, sports, and the news; the only things keeping "TV" and cable alive.

I personally haven't actually sat down myself and turned on the television for several years now. The only time I even see it in use is when my mother watches the news. I absolutely have zero interest in what the television has to offer. The shows aren't entertaining, the commercials are super corny, and I do not trust the information coming from the news stations. I like to get my information from the internet so I can do as much research as possible before blindly accepting the truth. And if I happen to be on Netflix, I will only be watching educational videos.

I'm another one who doesn't sit and watch traditional television. Like others have stated, there are much more affordable options that are actually better tailored to your tastes and interests. I find that with Netflix I'm much less susceptible to having to watch a ton of ads, and I'm able to focus on only the content. Additionally, much of entertainment these days is available on YouTube and other media platforms, and I personally use Google Chrome's ad-block add-on which disables most ads on these videos and on other websites. One of the main reasons I don't watch television is because of the ads alone; I am much more likely to buy a season of a show I like after it comes out, or stream it on another inexpensive platform.

I ask myself the same question, who really does watch television these days. I personally prefer to watch Netflix or anything else rather than watch anything on television. Everything seems to be reality based television. From MTV and VH1 that were once for music is now full of reality shows. You can't flip any channel without coming across anything that is a camera just following a rich person with nothing to do. It's just the reality of what people want these days and I simply do not care for TV anymore.
