Apparently some student at Ohio state went on a rampage: hitting people with his car and running around stabbing people with a butcher knife. I find it really interesting how the shooter, 18 year old, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, posted all over media before the attacks. Americans always talk about their right to privacy online. It's odd how someone can post something so blatantly threatening online without and repercussion for the postings. I think that this really shows the scope of how much we can post online. Law enforcement officials told NBC News that Artan was a Somali refugee who left his homeland with his family in 2007, lived in Pakistan and then came to the United States in 2014 as a legal permanent resident. I wonder how the media will react to the fact that he was a refugee and what that means as the United States moves forward allowing more refugees into the US. The president of the Somalian Community in Ohio states, "As a Somali community here, we are in a state of shock. In Columbus, we live in a very peaceful community. This is going to affect the life of everybody. We are American, and we don't want somebody to create this problem."

It is mind blowing when we see something like this. We ask ourselves how can an individual be like that or what goes through their head. I personally think some people just had a rough childhood and now they seem to think they are doing an okay thing. Or sometimes it can be they don't think about their actions. Having to stave people is not an okay thing to do at all.

I agree that more research needs to be done on why these men snap. The issues of race and gender cannot be ignored. Investigators are working to determine if the shooter had ties to terrorist organizations. However, almost all of the mass murders that have occurred in last few years were committed by men. Men have also suffered higher rates of depression and suicide. Many report chronic loneliness. Movements such as Mens Rights Movements and the revival of neo-Nazis that became visible during Trump's campaign have also shown more male discontent in public spaces. The perception that men have been disenfranchised by feminist movements has fostered a climate of hate and intolerance. Men who believe their rights are being taken away due to efforts to provide equal opportunities perceive themselves as victims of persecution and join movements to regain some of the power and control they believe has been lost. When efforts to regain lost ground fail, these men may feel hopeless and become isolated as their social networks fall apart. While we do not yet know the reasons behind the attack, the pattern of male violence on a massive public scale shows a growing problem. The majority of male voters elected a known sexist bigot with a history of sexual misconduct and predatory behavior. I am examining yet another episode of large scale male violence through a broader lens that sees many men in crisis. More work must be done to address these feelings of isolation and anger to prevent violence from spreading.

Why do people hurt others instead of dealing with things themselves. I don’t get why people have to lash out towards others. I feel like we haven’t been taught to communicate the way we should be so we look for a way to have our voices heard. We know that social media is always being monitored because they have caught bomb threats and things like that but when there are mass shootings no one sees it coming. This is definitely something that has to be improved.
