Recently, I have been reading a lot of articles about females in the workplace. This was an important topic for me to look into since it applies to my everyday life. It is so difficult to be taken seriously in the workplace for many women. I thought I would share my own experiences and observations of the people around me. So what is it really like to be surrounded by suits and powerful men?

There are two types of women where I work. There are the respected professional women who come across as being bitches. On the other hand, there are the young girls who dress inappropriately and flirt with their bosses. So why is it that if you are a professional woman, men automatically think you are a bitch? If it was a guy who has power and was successful, then he would be treated differently.

It is difficult in today's world to find a job that you are passionate about. It is even more difficult to decide which path to take. Will you be the strong independent women who doesn't care what men think? Or will you be competing with young girls to get attention at work and hope to be promoted? I feel like this is not a topic that men have to deal with. It is unfortunate how women still have so many obstacles at work while men are immoderately taken seriously and promoted into high power roles because they are a "better fit." Still, we have come a long way and there are so many powerful women out there although the struggle continues for many women. I believe it is important to talk about these issues and think where you want to be and more importantly how you want to get there?

I think this a really important issue to discuss as well, especially as we encourage more girls to pursue careers in male dominated fields like business or engineering or technology. I saw a documentary a couple months ago about the gender gap in computer science companies. In it, a lot of women discussed how difficult it was going through college in a male dominated major, and all the issues they now faced in their careers. There was lots of talk of sexual harassment and the general feeling of being unwelcome or not included. When I was in college studying engineering, I was asked to join a group called the Society on Women Engineers. I thought it was dumb at the time-- why would I need to be in such a group? how could separating yourself from men make it easier? However, when I started working I realized how helpful it could be to have a group that has had similar experiences and could have your back and fight for gender equality in your workplace. I think if there were more organizations like this in various fields, women would feel stronger and like they could be themselves without having to worry about pleasing or upsetting men.

I totally agree with you and I defintely think that this is a huge issue that needs to be brought up more often than it already does.
I liked the part where you mentioned that being a professional women in a men dominated job/workplace, often gives the impression of you being a "bitch". I think that is because it is still not fully acceptable for a women to take more place and raise her voice in the company of a man, especially when it comes to work. It is taken as provoking and often causes arguments and problems. I think it is absolutely absurd that this still is a problem in 2016, that the women should lower themselves in order to please the men, of course this is not everywhere but in majority speaking, it still is like this. Which is terrible.
I really think that women should keep being brave and take more place in the workplaces, or else it will never change.
