Today I read an article on yahoo about a couple who gives back half of their salaries. It was fascinating to read this since most of us are always trying to make more money. The couple had a young child and the mother worked two part time jobs. They quoted "instead of buying a new flat screen tv, we would rather help someone in need." It was refreshing to read about a family who loved to give back to their community.

This article got me thinking of what each of us can do to give back. During the holiday season it is common for most of us to want to volunteer and help out. We should motivate friends and families to join us and to do more. As a student working full time, I can't see myself donating half of my salary. I started to brainstorm ideas of what I could do instead.

It is amazing how one article can inspire you and what you do with the rest of your day. I decided to schedule a meeting at work for everyone who was interested in volunteering. We also created a schedule of upcoming events. Food for thanksgiving, toys for children, marathons for charity, school supplies for back to school. I can't wait to see what we do with this idea and sometimes we forget how important it is to give back to the community.
