Chinese festival- Mid Autumn Festival
I am from Hong Kong and I am an international student in Los Angeles. On Thursday, it was the Chinese mid-autumn festival and I saw many posts about how my friends celebrate the big day on social media. In Chinese calendar, this day was the middle of the year and the moon is the biggest throughout the whole Chinese calendar. In the Chinese myth, a young lady didn’t want to marry to a man who she doesn’t like. As a result, she took a pill and fly to the moon. Anyway, Chinese people usually have family gathering to celebrate this day. To be honest, I forgot this big day until I was my Facebook and Instagram were full of pictures about Mid-Autumn Festival. Before I came to LA, I used to celebrate this day with my family in the past 18 years. We ate moon cakes and played lantern. I gather in the yard and look how beautiful the moon was. When I saw my friends posted their photos with friends and family to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on the social media, it makes me miss my home so much. However, in LA, I can just look up to the moon and have a simple dinner with my Chinese friends. I was wondering is there any festival about the moon or any myth about the moon in the western culture?
