Recently, because there was a holiday in the United State, a word got my attention. In the United state, Veteran is used for someone who has served or is serving in the military. Most of Veterans are proud of themselves that they’ve been protecting their nations. Veterans often receive special treatment because they were sacrificed for nations during wars. They are respected by a lot of Americans, so Veteran is important word as well as position for many people and the world. However, in Japan, it is used for someone who has had a lot of experiences in a particular occupation. Most of the time it uses for engineer or professional sports players. The reason why the word is different, is because of after World War Ⅱ. Japanese was influenced a lots by the United State, so the word was brought from there. However, meaning of the word was changed that firstly it is for people who were or are in the military, but it could think that people who have had an abundance of technique. Then it became a current meaning in Japan. The meaning is totally different between two countries, but there is a history that how the Veteran became the meaning in Japan. However, Japanese has to be careful to use Veteran in the United State, it could make a misunderstanding for Americans.
