So this week, I heard about this new prank called gallon smashing. Gallon smashing is when you go to a store and smash a gallon of milk or drink and then fall down and pretend like you're hurt. This particular prank has just gotten out of hand. I find it pointless and wasteful. And on top of everything else, it's not even funny.

Pranks cease to be funny when they become a burden on somebody else. People that gallon smash don't take into account the people that they affect. They don't care about or help the people that have to clean up the spill. Nor do they care if they ruin the clothes of people around them when they splash the drink everywhere. This is a "prank" that isn't funny, and should just stop.

This trend just adds fuel to the fire when people say that Americans are wasteful. Milk has been getting expensive, and I find it ridiculous that people would just waste it like that. I think we need to find something more productive to trend, like helping or giving. Instead of doing all these pranks that hurt people, why don't we try doing something that can help someone. We as a society need to change. If not now, then when?

I have never heard of this but it does not even seem funny. A prank is funny when you are messing with a friend because you generally know how they will react and that they will just be able to laugh it off later. I think this new prank craze has to do with all of the Youtube video sensation and the TV shows that highlight these videos. Everyone seems to want their minute of fame.

I've seen these videos on youtube. I agree with everything you're saying, but some of the people's responses were hilarious. It's that common idea that when the audience knows the truth (i.e. the kid is not really hurt) but the people in the video do not, it's somehow funny for us. But I completely agree. I think this prank is so wasteful and stupid. I don't mind the fact that they are tricking other people, most pranks involve that. But that fact that they are wasting entire gallons of milk and other things is so dumb. What will people from under-developed countries think about the youth of this country when they see these videos of us purposefully wasting food like that? Plus, it makes a mess that I doubt they actually clean up. So, you're right. When things become a burden on someone else, it's not funny anymore. Reading the comments on the videos comfort me that there are still intelligent people out there. I saw one where the comment said, "Go do something with your life. If you're smashing gallons of milk in grocery stores you must have run out of episodes of South Park to watch. Go read a book."

What?! I've never heard of such a thing, but this sounds crazy. I don't know how it has gotten out of hand. For people who actually get hurt, it will be a "girl who cried wolf situation". Sad.
