Today, I was scrolling through Instagram and I seen Amber Rose post something about a “Slut Walk.” Amber Rose is all about woman power and feminism. I had no idea what a Slut Walk was, so I of course Googled it. Slut Walks originated in Chicago in 2011 after a Toronto police office made a comment - "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized." This is still an on going movement to demonstrate and fight the idea that what women wear or how they behave determines if they should be raped.

As I did more research, I came across another article about how a 11 year old girl who was gang raped by 18 men. Within the news article there was a description about how the girl dressed - “older than her age and wore makeup.” As if that was the reason why she got raped. A rapist is a rapist not because of how a women is dressed. If a women is wearing a sexy dress it doesn't mean “come fuck me.” Sexuality shouldn't be a calling for men to rape a girl/woman. Women shouldn’t have to change their behavior in order to be protected from violent assault and be safe. Why not stop men from raping?

I have been saying this for some time now. It's amazing how many rapes go unreported because the victim is often punished and scrutinized and caused even more anguish. Small things like walking to your car alone at night are so scary because you never know who's watching and following you and why do i have to wear sweat pants in 90 degree weather to prevent a rape? Makes no sense that they tell us that when rapes are largely not about SEX to begin with. They are about power and I love when women stand together and fight to take back our power.
