The Staves, a British trio of sisters who sing acoustic music, are the best thing since well ANYTHING. The group contains sisters Emily, Jessica, and Camilla. The first song I heard was their song "Mexico," in the winter of 2011 and that was the day I became obsessed. I'm one of those people who listen to songs till I kill them, and that song was on repeat for months. It became my favorite song and influenced me to start looking into their other songs. I later bought their Ep, and later their album Dead and Born and Grown.
After months of obsessing over their whimsical sound and beautiful three part harmonies, I started to get back into my rock music (ahem, Arctic Monkeys, one of the best bands ever). Even though I loved their music, I decided it was time to give it a break. And so I didn't actively listen to them for at least a year. I was preoccupied with my Kpop obsession and Arctic Monkeys so I didn't listen to them. A couple of months later, I needed to listen to something calm, so hey, why not The Staves.
I'm back at square one. I'm officially back on the crazy obsession train that only The Staves could cause. Their vocal arrangements transport their audience to a simpler time. I often think they were born in the wrong century. Something about their voices is reminiscent of wood cabins, home cooked meals, and peace.Other times, their songs and voices remind me of leaving and starting anew. That just demonstrates the range in which these awesome women can transport their audience. And not to mention, their live performances are other worldly! I've yet to hear a performance when they don't sound as good, if not better than their recordings. If you're ever in the mood for something transcendent, The Staves are your girls.
