So this week I caught a video on facebook regarding Beyonce's song "Drunk in Love". The song comes on at my work all the time and I actually have purchased the CD. I don't really listen to Beyonce that often, just when she comes on randomly on shuffle. I noticed I started to really like the "Drunk in Love" song. I never paid much attention to the lyrics, like I usually do when listening to music, so I never knew exactly what she was saying.
Then I came across this video of three older woman reading the lyrics from a computer screen. They were appalling! I couldn't believe what the women were reading off, I was in complete agreement with the women, that the lyrics were trash and horrible. I couldn't believe that behind that catchy melody was total garbage! I'm seriously ashamed that we give junk like that the time of day.
I'm starting to notice that more and more, I feel like a lot of artists are losing their integrity when it comes to their art. Selling anything and doing anything because they think they can. Kinda the same way Lady Gaga just degraded herself on stage by having a woman throw up on her while she was performing. Where do they stop?

I would really like to see that video!
And the one about Lady gaga, never hear of that either.
That is what most artists does now, they use lyrics that makes no sense.
If you listen to new rap song, they are just about p***y, money and weed.
Why is that? where is the old school rap? When the lyrics actually had a purpose or a story, not just bragging lyrics about money and sex.
And if they have a catchy melody the lyrics are often just misunderstood, because many people don't listen to the lyrics that much, they just listen to the melody.
Lyrics are often just crap these days, it feels like they just sing about nonsense.
Hopefully there will come some new artists with originality in the near future!

Hi Manuel.

Thanks for sharing! WHAT! When and where did Lady Gaga have a woman throw up on her?

I have also see the video of the three elderly woman reading the lyrics to drunk in love. The video is hilarious but it is only hilarious because they are so in shock. I agree that these lyrics are trash and that the majority of lyrics in music these days are trash. We are so desensitized to lyrics which results in woman singing sexist and degrading lyrics because the "like the beat". I am definitely guilty of purchasing and listening to some trash music but I think you bring up a good point. We need to start listening more and pay more attention to what we are putting in our brains. My question is will we ever go back to respectful music or will we just keep getting farther down the road of garbage?

Manuel,

So true. "Drunk In Love" really is a trashy and badly written song. I, myself and millions of others, are so in love with the catchiness of the song and the music that comes with it that we fail to really take the time to understand the lyrics. Which is unfortunate, but at the same time, I have always been a lover of music and not just the lyrics of the song. So that wouldn't really stop me from listening to a song; unless, it had that most disgusting lyrics ever that degraded a certain race of people or judge someone because of their sexual identity. Those two topics get me really heated up. I guess I just learned to not take lyrics too seriously, but maybe that should change. Maybe we all need to take action and tell these celebrities to stop with these trashy lyrics so they understand the issue from our eyes. Also, where is this Lady Gaga getting thrown up on video? I totally need to watch this. That sounds so crazy! I like some of Lady Gaga's songs, but I've never really been a true fan of hers. She's too over the top and in your face, it bothers me when celebrities do that. It's like they're practically screaming and demanding attention.
