It was in the news this week regarding the white house correspondents dinner. President Obama gave his speech to the press and celebrities present. It really shows a lot of his sense of humor and self deprecating wit when he gives his speech and this year I felt he was even more free then ever since it was his final one. This is a yearly event where the president gives a dinner and speech and in effect thanks them for their work. There were also many celebrities in attendance like Helen Mirren, Jeff Goldblum and Emma Watson are all fairly politically active. Kerry Washington from Scandal was also present.

It seemed like the biggest roasting went to Donald Trump, and I have to say the quips were dead on and very funny, if in an alarming way. The fact that he is the most popular Republican Nominee is rather surreal in itself. He did seem to be playing to the crowd as there were all taken very well.

As I mentioned he also made fun of himself and it really seemed to set the crowd at ease. This seems like a more humanistic way to relate to the sitting president and a time where there can be less formalities and address those funny things you can't really make fun of in the moment and stay "presidential". It would be awesome to at ten fit someday! one of my friends who is a journalist for the Washington Times was there and posted lots of cool pictures in black tie!

I think the White House Correspondents Dinner is a good way to show the president’s humor and make him relatable. The speech is current and funny, which keeps it interesting and entertaining. It allows for the president to show his sense of humor and a more personal opinion. Although it may seem as though the speech has parts that are not politically correct, this is all thought out and is done on purpose in order for people to think that political correctness is thrown out the window for this speech. I believe that the speech is still meant to relate to the public and uses humor as a form of doing so.
