This week I watched Leonardo diCaprio’s 2007 documentary, 11th Hour. It revolves around the idea that the ignorance of the human race in terms of polluting our environment. This will one day lead to not only our very own extinction, but the termination of our planet due to global warming. The film demonstrates how every organism is affected by the many different forms of pollution. I also liked how the film also holds a very strong philosophical standpoint.

The filmmakers and scientists in the film fight to illustrate not only the evidence of what global habits lead to but how we as a culture do not see ourselves as a part of nature. The truth that they are portraying is that we are just as much a member of nature as a great oak tree or school of fish and we could potentially be the member who destroys the last grain of sand on our own beloved planet if we continue to ignore the warning signs.

For me, the film was incredibly moving. Although I’ve believed in the truth of climate change, I never did my part in putting out the effort to actively fix the issue. I firmly believe that the film held the truth that each one of us should know in order to continue a life of harmony on this planet before it’s too late. I highly recommend checking out this film. It will truly open your eyes to a whole new world.
