I came across this article and thought it would be interesting to share. In summary, English physicist, Brian Cox, discusses about his theory of why have we not met with any aliens. He stated that there is a high chance that intelligent extraterrestrials are out there in this universe but we don't have evidence on this claim.
His idea is simple. We, as an intelligent life form, are outgrowing our political power in comparison with science and engineering, in which, eventually it would put us into extinction. Similarly, our alien friends might be experiencing the same phenomenon. In order to be able to contact other intelligent life forms, one species need to act with one global interest and to spend all resources to develop the technology for such task. For instance, humans have been destroying our own world with wars and nuclear weapons. And keep in mind that our weapons are developed mainly used for military, not to expand our capabilities in the exploration of our universe. Imagine if we are able to act as one and focus on our technology to explore the space and stop the rest of the weapon developments, we could possibly achieve much more and find out more about our own universe and other planets.
