Recently CBS released an article discussing how KKK members don't believe in white supremacy. In it a KKK member was interviewed sharing his ideas on what a Trump win meant for America: whites are taking back the country. Obviously this entire article is extremely problematic in its title, and intention. It allowed for such a dangerous group to have a voice in today’s world, and prove that their involvement in racialized issues is still extremely high.

Instead of this media outlet challenging the views of the KKK and bringing awareness to the horrific things these people have committed, the article downplays the wants of these members. Media giving terrorist groups, like the KKK a platform to share their ideals is extremely dangerous and proves that society has not made such drastic progress on race issues as we think.

I believe CBS News, whether intentional or not, normalized this terrorist group that has been directly connected to so many deaths, lynchings, and hate crimes against African Americans. I also think this is one of the few outcomes of a Trump win for president. White people, especially, have become bold and unafraid to share their racist ideas and publicly discriminate people. It’s terrifying to have credible news outlets reporting on present Klan members beliefs.
