The Student Journal of Race & Gender in Media is a journal published semi-annually by, a leading media education organization. The Journal aims to publish original research by undergraduate and graduate students about issues of race and gender in the media.

The debut issue of the Journal will be published in Spring 2013, with a submission deadline of December 15, 2012.

This issue of the Journal will not have a specific theme, but articles in the following area are welcome and encouraged:

  • Racism or sexism in advertising.
  • Portrayals of minority or female candidates in political news reporting.
  • Racism or sexism in primetime television.
  • Media’s depiction and/or coverage of women’s issues.
  • Gender or racial stereotyping in professional sports.

Manuscripts should be double-spaced, in 12-pt. Times New Roman font using APA style of documentation, and should be submitted to Nick Pernisco, Journal Editor (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). The word limit for papers is 2,000 words (maximum) including bibliography. Papers previously published or under review by other journals will not be considered. No papers will be considered after the closing date. Verification of enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program is required. All manuscripts will be subject to a double-blind peer review process, but potential authors are welcome to discuss their ideas in advance with the Editor.
